Change, Rebirth & Scorpio Season
As those of you who’ve been in class this week know, we’re working with the deep, transformative energies of Scorpio Season: the season of death, rebirth, and renewal.
As a Scorpio Rising (with a Taurus Sun and Leo Moon, for the astrology lovers among you), I feel powerfully drawn to this energy and everything it represents. Scorpio invites us to move through cycles of transmutation and transformation - to honour the skins we’re shedding, to give thanks (and sometimes grieve) for what’s been, and to cast our vision forward for what’s to come: the rebirth of self.
They say your Rising Sign reflects the energy you grow into as you travel through life, and for me, that’s been spot on. I’ve walked through many symbolic deaths and rebirths: shedding skins through divorce, leaving a secure teaching career, and navigating my own dark nights of the soul. Each ending, though painful, became an initiation - a passageway into a truer version of myself.
Because here’s the truth: there’s no such thing as stillness.
 Life is change.
 The universe is change.
That’s both the challenge and the beauty of it.
The mind longs to hold on - to resist the unknown - but transformation is how life keeps itself alive. Think of the snake: its old skin must grow tight and uncomfortable before it’s ready to shed. That discomfort? It’s a sacred signal of evolution.
You Are the Rhythms of the Universe Wrapped in Skin
As I shared in class this morning: you are the rhythms of the universe wrapped in skin.
 The inhale and the exhale.
 Expansion and contraction.
 Life and death.
These cycles pulse through every level of existence - from your breath, to the tides, to the galaxies expanding since the Big Bang itself.
Our yoga practice can become a living ritual of these cycles:
🪞 Svadhyaya - Self-Study
Each time we come to the mat, we meet ourselves anew - observing what’s alive in our body, emotions, and energy.
🔥 Tapas - The Inner Fire
Through movement, we build heat - feeding energy into what we wish to grow and burning away what we’re ready to release.
🌬️ Ishvara Pranidhana - Surrender
And finally, we let go - releasing the need to control outcomes and softening into the mystery, especially in savasana.
Isn’t it an incredible thing to realise your practice is not separate from life itself? You are not part of the universe - you are the universe. You are nature in motion, consciousness breathing itself in and out through you.
So the next time you find yourself in a moment of darkness, shedding, waiting, or rebirth - remember:
You are the universe witnessing itself.
You are the cycle, the pulse, the rhythm.
You are the wave and the ocean.
We are One.
If you’d like to honour this energy in your own practice, you might love my Rebirth class — a live recorded session weaving together embodied spirituality, somatic movement, and kundalini yoga to guide you through your own cycle of release and renewal.
